The Shepherd
03:16
|
|||
The Shepherd
the wolves gather and dance around the well
as their voices begin to swell
with cries to the moon
the shepherd guards his flocks by night
holding his staff of light
the sound of wolves reach his ears
but he doesn't fear
he’ll stand and fight until he dies
to save the sheep's lives
he'll stand to save their lives
he wants to save our lives
he's come to save our lives

An Ancient Praise
04:53
|

An Ancient Praise
the ancients sing
they sing glory unto you
glory to the one most high
we give you glory in everything we do
the ancients shout
their praise from the top of the mount
in hopes that people will draw near
and question what it is they hear
the people say as they draw near
what is this sound that is so queer
these words that pour from their mouths
who could they be about
a fire filled their eyes
as they began to recognize
a name that they had never heard
but that they’d known since birth
YHWH
YHWH
be with us as we pray
our father YHWH

Loss of a Son, Love of a Father
looking down at the crumpled note in his hand
covered in words spelling out what he cant understand
said I’m sorry dad I hope you can forgive what I’ve done
and that you won't quit calling me your son
I never thought that I’d shoot down a man
I never thought anyone would die by my hand
so I’ve packed my bags on my horse
and I’ve left you my gun
said I'm not gonna kill anymore
I swear that im done
his eyes filled with tears as he tried not to cry
and cried out into the night why son, oh why
your mom and I did our best to raise you right
but now she stays up crying into the night
but the pain that you caused
it doesn't compare
to the love that you lost
it doesn't seem fair
so we’ll wait for you our only son
because we love you no matter what we’ve done
you’ll always be with us in our hearts
the one place we’ll never be truly apart

The Cave of Wonders
05:05
|

The Cave of Wonders
the gravel crunches beneath our feet
eyes widen when sweaty palms meet
but not enough to force the fog's retreat
eyes open as it grows
and the cave of wonders you lead me to
was a pin prick darkness i couldn't get through
careful chosen words to not upset you
we squirmed into the dark
the final straw was that frosty landscape
where the overgrown path was the righteous escape
I cut into the earth, but couldn't kill your claims
that you can't surrender the choices you've made
words weren't enough to drag you along
even weightless as that worm eaten log
one burst in the brightness, one swallowed by fog
the twisted twine is now undone
the blot on my life that my property left
was a shivering pillar where i could see my breath
soon transformed to warmth without regret
as I gave everything away
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
no I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I met him with outstretched arms
clearheaded, clear-eyed, and pockets emptied
I found myself alone in the land of plenty
with nothing but sugar sand to support me
fumbled around for the rocks
a place to stand rivaled every scene
of my life before my eyes like that matte black screen
a precious view this globe should see
no way i could stay silent
with scraps on my back and makeup on my face
not a soul could see where the cracks were placed
destroyed it all to erase the trace
of a hope found in things of this world
lava spewed words i thought were burning
the facet dripped spit would have you turning
rejection of the lesson was part of my learning
changing you is not my task
I surrendered all but these calloused heels
a wind blown seed split traveling the trail
no pact with appearance but with action make the deal
where the spark of truth will be
the fog came and whistled at the edge
to claim its stake before my final step
i beat it to the brightness with what i had left
as i gave everything away
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
no I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I met him with outstretched arms
but i felt the wind
that storm from within
so i can't pretend
there's nothing after this
that bleeding black
blown through your hair
has got you scared
of what you're gonna miss
you were chosen before
the cracks in the earth
had a chance to bust
through their crust
with bold excuses
the importance you place
on temporary things
is painted on your face
appearance is nothing
words are dead
time to turn
to action instead
all that you own
is fading fast
nothing on earth
will ever last
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
no I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I wasn't afraid when death finally came
I met him with outstretched arms

The Calling of John

|

The Calling of John
there was an old man whose name had been forgot
he lived on a farmland in a house full of rot
he sat on his porch day in and day out
he had forgotten what his life was about
then one night he saw it dancing
somewhere between the wasteland and the sky
he said wait right there I'm coming
it wont be long until I die
the light grew brighter as he stood and stared
and a voice rang out from the clouds
it said now John please don't be scared
but I've got more for you to do before you come around
get up leave your things and go
this isn't where you need to be
and I promise I'll provide for you
if you just get up and follow me
John looked to the sky and asked why me
I've hated my brother and I've stolen many things
so what do you expect me to do
cause when I hunger I don't look to you
the voice answered in reply
eat the nine fruits and you will be satisfied
I'll give you everything you need
if you just get up and follow me
so wont you get up and follow me
why don't you get up and follow me
I'll give you everything you could ever need
if you just get up and follow me

Song of the Blind Men

Song of the Blind Men
tomorrow may never come
today will never die
the swelling air within my lungs
screams out to voices on high
so take my hand
if you want to understand
just open up your eyes and clear you mind
and go with me
the trees they sway
under the sunset display
the animals have all gone their way
they're free
the men will call
after they've lost it all
they no longer will stand tall
among the trees
the son has gone
and you were wrong
the blind men are singing their song
they’re free

Cries of the Animals
05:05
|

Cries of the Animals
listen to sounds
that come from the mouths
of the beasts
from days of old
men and women gather round
to see what has been found
in the place where
stories were once told
the cries that break through
they tear you down you do
not understand
what they say to you
your lungs fill with air
the people start to stare
as you start singing
and you sing hallelujah
the crowd all looks around
seeking the source of the sound
of the song that
plagues their mind
and one by one
they raise their arms in the sun
they start to dance
they cant keep still
with arms lifted high
they turn their eyes to the sky
and join in the song
and they sing hallelujah
and they bow down
they put their heads to the ground
not by flesh they’ve been found
but by the sound
and they sing hallelujah
we sing hallelujah
